sorry, i hadn't considered either of those scenarios.

in the case of nfs mounting, i believe it should still work unless each
package tree is actually in a separate partition (is anyone really doing
that on a per package tree basis ?) if you export a symlink it should
simply be exporting the directory you point it at..

in terms of stability, yes i agree, changing stuff back and forth is
extremely unwelcome so hopefully this means a change isn't needed for
a while..
