While I think they are useful in the sense for which they were intended, I don't think they're quite powerful enough for what I need to express. (I'm going to follow-up to Nik's feedback with a more detailed description of this.) I *do* think that the attributes will be a very useful way to express architecture-specific features and in fact there is even an attribute defined by DocBook for exactly this purpose. Eventually I want to move to that model (away from the conditional inclusion we do now).
