The dissertation paper on UVM describes the differences (and is reasonably objective). It can be found on the UVM pages (http://www.ccrc.wustl.edu/pub/chuck/tech/uvm/). I'm not aware of any benchmarks, but would expect UVM to be somewhat slower doing most things (not by design, just the current implementation).
