SSDs will give you a warning via SMART; they will begin to retire blocks and swap in reserved blocks. Simpler devices such as memory cards and USB sticks will simply die. I use SSDs in mission-critical applications, so that I have at least a fighting chance of replacing them before there's an outage. --Brett Glass
