I must say that from the very first minute, I felt I was dealing with a better unix. I very much like hacking around and with the help of some kind soul I hope to end up with a nice development environment. I don't use Xwindow because my tzeng card seems to have some trouble to restore video mode when exiting Xwindow. My hardware is not one of the most modern... 1993 486DX66, 20MB RAM, Mitzumi 1x CDROM, tzeng et4000 1MB I just installed 3.0-RELEASE for C++ develop purposes. The first thing I did after installing was: g++ -v which reported version 2.7.2.1 My question is: Are there any reason to hold on 2.7.2.1 instead of upgrading to 2.8.x ? I was told that version 2.8 added much better C++ features support ( template, exception handling, rtti, etc...) Are there any downsides on 2.8.x ? Is the 2.8 version already in the ports? If not, would my upgrading to 2.8.x impact in any way with FreeBSD environnment (I mean in building a customized kernel, or building the ports) ? How about configuring csh to bring up the previous command line pressing the uparrow? I didn't try CTRL+p yet... Any help/hints will be greatly appreciated. Best regards.
