I had these same errors, I got rid of them by removing all of the
XFree86 stuff, moving /usr/X11R6 after checking the package directory
and removing any packages that were storing stuff in /usr/X11R6, and
rebuilding gnome with xorg overnight. I am not saying that this is
the ideal way to deal with this, just that it's possible to get rid of
the error.

I did get some kind of 'kbd' or 'xkbd' related error on startup I will
check on later...

   Hi folks,

I am getting strange error messages if I try to start an gnome applet.
This errors seems to have something to do with my recent switch to the
xorg server. The error message from the attempt to start the
   WorkSpaceSwitcherApplet is for example:

   |The panel encountered a problem while loading
   |"OAFIID:GNOME_WorkspaceSwitcherApplet".
   |Details: Failed to resolve, or extend
   |'!prefs_key=3D/apps/panel/profiles/default/applets/
   |applet_3/prefs;background=3Dnone:;orient=3Ddown;size=3Dsmall;
   |locked_down=3Dfalse

Any hints on what I can do to get rid of this errors?

System is a FreeBSD-5.2.1-p9 and a recent Gnome2 build from the ports.

If I could provide further information please let me know.

   best regards,

	   Gordon
