I use some big perl scripts year ago.
Perl 5.00 on FreeBSD is slowly that on Linux.
The same script, under the same machine, same web server runs on Linux 3-5
time faster.
So, I rewrite all scripts in C.

Perl 5.6.1 works much better. Migrate to it.
