The program squid is extremely good.  You can install it through the ports
collection, and it shouldn't be very hard for you to set up.  We currently
have a dedicated machine running as proxy, and we have had no problems.  I
think it is the fastest one you can get, or at least the best.  (This is
since just about everyone uses it!  :-)  )
