The usual answer - or question - to "it's broken for me, can someone ...?" is "Where's your patch?". :) You might want to have a look at src/release/sysinstall/installUpgrade.c and the hitlist which has callback handler preparations already. That was the first match when searching for "crontab" there. From a quick view this could be the place to hook into. But I thought modifying cron(8) itself would be the best way.
