As somebody else pointed out (and as you can see on page xxxiv), I assume the Bourne shell (not bash) in the book. This may not be the wisest choice in view of the fact that out of the box the system comes with the C shell for root. With the C shell, you would write # foreach i (*) ? ln -s $i /usr/ports/distfiles/$i ? end I'll put this in the errata.
