The Lexmark 5700 printer is a host based printer.
Meaning it will only work with an Operating system providing the
manufacturer has made drivers for it. The current available drivers are
Windows 9x, Windows NT4 and OS/2.
This is not a postscript printer so it won't work in FreeBSD.
Suggestions:
Check with the manufacturer before purchasing a printer or any other
hardware if it will work in non Windows environments and if so, just how
much support do they offer.
Demand the manufacturer stop making Windows only hardware!

It's probably a better idea to check with the manufacturer if they support
the system you are using before asking for assistance from a mailing list
that most likely knows less about your printer than you do!

Cheers
Ben
