Password authentication problem! To: freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; CHARSET=US-ASCII X-Organization: Cambridge University, Department of Pathology. X-Mailer: ANT RISCOS Marcel [ver 1.53] Sender: owner-freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.ORG I've just upgraded my server from 3.x to 4.2 stable. I achieved this by a new installation of 4.2 on a new disc and then swapping out my root disc to a new mount. I installed the basic packages I have by default from CVsup and used the ports make install. Packages installed are Apache, Samba, Netatalk, amanda, X I then copied across the old password file to recreate users accounts. Most things seem to work fine. I can login as any authorised user under telnet, xdm, samba or pcnfsd. However I am unable to login using ftp or as an appleshare over appletalk. The machine is registered OK over appletalk and even allows printing via appletalk. The problem I am experiencing seems to be specific to uid/password authorisation for the ftp and appleshare (netatalk) protocols. I am at a loss as to where to tackle this problem. I have looked at auth.conf and pam.conf but can't identify any problem. Help would be appreciated as I have a number of apple users who would like to regain access to their files!
