I am looking at getting a new system which will be running FreeBSD as its primary OS, and I am wondering which sound card I should get. It should be noted that cost is a consideration, and nor am I a hacker. (I'm going to need this thing to pretty much "just work") I would be interested in using it for basic recording and playback. (a few .au and .wav files, and with the MBONE tools. (VAT, NV etc.) I seem to hear "bad things" about most of the popular cards. I am using the soundblaster16 at the moment. This has been pretty good (I only ever need to use 1/2 duplex for VAT). However last time I looked, it seemed as though the most recent versions of VAT had dropped SB-16 support.
