Hi Michael,

LOL, quiet. My box with a Coolermaster case, 460W power supply, giant
cpu fan (Zalman), and two scsci 160 drives sounds like a jet engine
starting up. Unfortunately, the Abit "Guru" fan fan speed control
doesn't work, and the Abit "PC Guru" utility will not load, I get an
error message. This Guru tool looks fantastic. You can set trip points
for cpu voltage, temps, etc, and get an audible alarm or shutdown if they
are exceeded. I t was designed for the overclocker. I know better
than do that stuff LOL. It will, if working, also automatically
download bios and flash install it. Very cool. (if working :(

My main problems have been with Windoze XP-64 beta. FreeBSD just
appears to be working, although I have to admit, I really haven't put it
thru its paces yet. I have one app on Windoze that I use all the time
IVisit video chat, and I've been pulling out my hair and concentrating
on getting that working on my laptop. Its taking 100% of my time right
now. As an aside, I have no video capture drivers that will work with
any cam for the Windoze 64 bit OS.. I guess I am too far ahead of my
time.

I was able to cvsup to 5.3-RELEASE on the FBSD side, and that is where I
am currenty at. However I get lots of bogus error messages saying that
almost all the config params in rc.conf are misconfigured. Yet the
computer works fine. This is my own fault as I merge /etc by hand and
probably missed something. I occasionally have tried to compile a port
and have gotten the error message, paraphrasing, "this is a 32 bit
application and can't be run on a 64 bit OS" or something like that. It
seems totally bogus. (please no lectures about mergemaster, I know the
drill)

Right now I am stuck on both OS's trying to install a brand new
beautiful Plextor PX-712SA SATA DVD+/- RW drive. It doesn't seem to be
recognized by either FBSD or Windoze.

So that is my 64 bit story.. I hope some of the info helps.

Sincerely, Rob.

ps. I will copy the AMD list on this as I or they might be able to
exchange some info or tips
