I have an Asus A8N-VM CSM motherboard, with integrated everything, ethernet, graphics, audio etc. I downloaded the sources from Ariff Abdullah's page today (NZ time), built and installed them. They built and ran fine, the card detected and I could play audio out of it but the audio was overlain by a LOUD squealing noise. It was painful to bring the volume on my speakers up enough to make out the music playing behind the squeal. If I set all of the mixer settings to 0 I get squeal, but no music. I have another machine I could use to record this effect if it would be useful. I also experienced something I found with the OSS driver, which is that there seems to be a lot of interference from the USB system, I can *hear* my mouse moving around. There is also interference from the onboard graphics system, when I drag windows around in X there is a loud buzzing noise. Even were there no squeal, this makes the device unusable to play music. I don't appear to be able to record anything, at least when I plugged a known-good mic into the mic port I didn't get anything I think I did manage to capture the buzzing noise though. There is a wav file of the effect at http://www.else.net.nz/tmp/HDA-test1.wav That is a 10 second wavfile captured with "wavrec HDA-test1.wav" where I move my mouse around, then grab a window and move it around, then let the window go and move the mouse some more. The bit where I move the window is quite noticeable in the middle of the file. Is there anything more useful I can do?
