I find that a 20" display at 1600x1200 is ideal for a viewing distance of about 18-20 inches. This resolution is the limit of the monitor (with a pitch of 0.26 mm) and is also not too far from the limit of normal visual acuity. If you run a higher resolution or are sitting farther away, a 21" or larger might make sense, but as you point out, they weigh a ton (even my 20" monitor weighs about 75 lbs). > If I had the money I would still prefer a TFT > flat screen personally, visually they are just > gorgeous on your eyes. They look great for general use, but I understand that they have some differences in gamma and rendering that make them delicate for graphics use. You have to have color profile support and the right profiles installed to make sure you are seeing things in a display-independent way. Also, no TFT monitor appears to support 1600x1200 right now, and I haven't seen much in the way of 20" TFT monitors, either. Finally, you need one with no defective pixels, and that might be problematic. > Don't live in the same room as a server with > SCSI drives though. They are significantly noisier > than ATA ones. The only difference between them is in the electronics, so I don't know why they'd be noisier. > Mmm. A Wacom digitizing tablet makes any mouse seem crude by comparison, and is a must for any kind of graphics work (but works well for other things, too). I will second the recommendation for a Microsoft Natural Keyboard. Unfortunately, finding a standard Elite version of the keyboard is extremely difficult these days, as Microsoft keeps introducing newer, more complicated, and more useless versions of the same keyboard.
