Unless I'm totally mistaken that is what the compat22 does - install old a.out libs that you need. See the FAQ (http://www.freebsd.org/FAQ/applications.html): Q: Where do I find ld.so? A: If you want to run some aout applications like Netscape Navigator on an Elf'ened machine such as 3.1-R or later, it would need /usr/libexec/ld.so and some aout libs. They are included in the compat22 distribution. Use /stand/sysinstall or install.sh in the compat22 subdirectory and install it. Also read ERRATAs for 3.1-R and 3.2-R. If you've installed the compat22 distribution (and assuming you installed the X libraries - although these may come in compat22 - can't recall), then you either need to: 1) run ldconfig by hand to find the a.out libs (man ldconfig) 2) reboot after making sure the ldconfig path is correct (see /etc/defaults/rc.conf and your own /etc/rc.conf or /etc/rc.conf.local) 3) read the installation notes for 3.* to find this out yourself (http://www.freebsd.org/releases/3.*R/notes.html) 4) search the -questions list where this has been gone over 10 million times http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/search.cgi?words=Netscape+AND+libXext&max=100& sort=date&source=freebsd-questions (all one line of course) Brett ***************************************************** Dr. Brett Taylor brett@peloton.runet.edu * Dept of Chem and Physics * Curie 39A (540) 831-6147 * Dept. of Mathematics and Statistics * Walker 234 (540) 831-5410 * ***************************************************** To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-ports" in the body of the message
