List members, I am running an HP Proliant ML150 with only one cpu [CPU: Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.00GHz (2992.51-MHz K8-class CPU)]. The details are below. The slot for the second cpu is empty and SMP support has not been enabled in the kernel. The upshot of seems to be that `top' doesn't indicate the cpu state, i.e.: last pid: 50248; load averages: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00 up 1+01:52:17 12:19:34 52 processes: 1 running, 50 sleeping, 1 zombie CPU states: % user, % nice, % system, % interrupt, %idle Mem: 153M Active, 387M Inact, 115M Wired, 28M Cache, 111M Buf, 191M Free Swap: 2020M Total, 2020M Free The question ... Would recompiling the kernel with SMP support resolve this issue? And, considering that I only have one cpu, would this be safe? I'd be grateful for any advice.
