I am trying to start the process of loading FreeBSD. I am somewhat confused as to just what files are required to perform the installation, and the procedures to follow. I have read a good portion of the help files, but it seems the more I read, the less certain I am what the proper course of action is. I have a MS-DOS based 386 PC with a 540meg hard drive that I would like to install this FreeBSD on. I do not have the CDROM, so I must rely on getting the files from the web site. I am interested in the 2.1.7.1 version. Can you tell me what files I need to install the program? I have downloaded quite a few files from your ftp site, but I am not sure if I have all of the files I need or (None of them). I created a boot FreeBSD boot disk, but I have the impression that I may need all of the files in the bin and manpages directory also. If so do these files need to be formated like the FreeBSD boot disk or will MS-DOS work? I have also seen a file called setup.exe . Will it make the installation work any easier? So to return to my root question what files do I need, do they have to be on floppies, or will they install from the hard drive and is there a procedure that steps me through all of this? I am pretty computer literate, but I am baffled by what appears to be contradictions in the install procedures. Hope you can help me out of this MAZE :-) .
