I've had this sitting around in my tree for a few weeks. These are some patches to camcontrol to implement a 'format' subcommand: http://www.freebsd.org/~ken/camcontrol.format.061799 By default, this issues an immediate format command, and then updates a percentage formatted display every second. You'll need to apply the patches, recompile and reinstall libcam, and then recompile and reinstall camcontrol. The camcontrol modifications depend on some new functionality in libcam. Hopefully the man page should explain how things work. I'd appreciate any feedback, comments, etc. The usual disclaimers apply -- use at your own risk.
