I've only got 512k/128k ADSL on a Pentium 166, so it doesn't sound like ppp(8) will be a bottleneck, based on your experience. Anyway, are you sure you need to worry about mpd? My Pentium 120 router handles my 1.5MBit ADSL at full speed with ppp(8)'s pppoe.
