Then why are they installed in /usr/share/mk? It does not say they are private to the BSD source tree, only that the BSD source tree uses them. The itnerface has been basically stable since 1.0 FreeBSD. Outwise folks are using them. There's no need to screw them gratuitously. But this is pointless. Unless you go and include a new file at the start of every makefile in the tree changing the bsd.*.mk files to include the global config file is meaningless because it is too late.
