Well I sent this privately to pav@ and I think we've kinda agreed that it is an ISP issue. Basically it seems that for some reason the one box always manages to connect to a specific server in my ISPs round-robin cluster of servers and sends okay, the other always seems to connect to one that returns 550 error.
