Do you have correct modules? drm2/drm2, 
drm/i915kms? I ask, because when I was using
patch for KMS, it was prior to splitting new stuff
to drm2. 

If in doubt, rebuild kernel ;)

I don't know why, but only the second 
one I've built today loaded correctly
i915kms module and X11 [1]

It went like this:

Updating src, rebuilding whole system, 
startx- fail, updating xorg to freshest trunk, 
reboot, startx- fail, rebuilding kernel, reboot, 
startx- success!
