I can say, I have been using CURRENT as my only desktop for many years and I have seen this before. It is possible I saw it when 12 was CURRENT but I can not say for sure. I have definitely seen it before now on 13-CURRENT. I failed to report it before, but yes I have seen this behavior previously in 13-CURRENT. Mostly it happened when I was running VBOX as host with a VM guest OS running and the guest OS would be playing a web video and the sound would stop.
