I recently setup a whole new install of FreeBSD (after tinkering for a few days with Debian, for reasons I won't bore you with here). Initial install of GNOME was 2.4, mostly from packages, followed by a later upgrade to 2.6. > make sure you're using the factory > gdm.conf.
