It appears to work just fine for me in Nautilus 2.6.3 with File-roller 2.6.2. Nautilus uses bonobo to activate the file-roller component, and doesn't actually launch file-roller. I would try reinstalling file-roller, and if that doesn't help, check the console or ~/.xsession-errors for clues as to why it's failing.
