Well, I had done the download && diff -ru; I had forgotten the -N.

I still want the author to confirm his intent, as well as alert him
(gently) that the FreeBSD ports system is a tad sensitive to such
things, so a small "heads up" would have been helpful in avoiding the
situation in the first place.

[The addition of the -N to the diff args didn't appear to change things.]
