Hi,

when I connect to a public FTP server running Solaris 8 I see

> ftp> ls
> 200 PORT command successful.
> 150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for file list.
> AFA-MIRROR
> INDEX
> MIRRORS

> 226 Transfer complete.
> 53 bytes received in 0.0031 seconds (16.96 Kbytes/s)
> ftp> ls -l
> 200 PORT command successful.
> 150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for /bin/ls.

> -rw-r--r--   1 ftpadm   ftpadm     77607 Apr 22 00:00 AFA-MIRROR

The short ls lists only files and dirs which are not writable by group.

Your problem is not really the same
