this is nice....

you mean I cant setup my printer until I recomplie my kernel????

I didnt do any configuration on installation....and this section generic:

# Parallel port
device		ppc0	at isa? irq 7
device		ppbus		# Parallel port bus (required)
device		lpt		# Printer
device		plip		# TCP/IP over parallel
device		ppi		# Parallel port interface device
#device		vpo		# Requires scbus and da

and there is a /lpt0 in /dev...

nothing I've done from the handbook lptcontrol, lptest, gets any rise from the 
printer.....

so what now boss?
