I don't see any line showing that the HAL backend kicks in. Is hald running? Without configuration, HAL adds all keyboard/mouse to the X server anyway. What is configurable in HAL is mostly the keyboard layout you want. Without this, the keyboard should be there with a US qwerty layout.
