2.2-BETA are test versions for the eventual 2.2-RELEASE.

3.0-SNAPs are snapshosts of the current placement of FreeBSD.

In general, if you're looking to run a server or other stable system, look
to 2.1.6-RELEASE or 2.2-RELEASE when available.

If you're looking to test what's current in FreeBSD, run the 3.0-SNAPs.

I am running the beta on my box and no problems except for trouble with
the ncr SCSI controller probing, which I fixed with a kernel recompile.

The web pages at http://www.freebsd.org contain an explanatory page that
describes the FreeBSD release structure.
