This should not affect ssh X forwarding, and indeed ssh X forwarding from various remote machines to my 4.6-PRE laptop running XFree86 4.2.0 works just fine. Is X forwarding turned on on client and server end ? (ssh -v and echo $DISPLAY should tell you if it's being set up).
