the jserv configure script searches (in fact) for gmake. but it searches for a
gmake which is named 'make'. the only make utility which is named 'make'
on your system is the original one, which came with your freebsd distribution.

a possible solution could be to rename make to make.orig and gmake to make.

don't forget to undo this after compiling jserv ;-)
