Doh.  I didn't read the thread thuroughly.  Sorry.  I assumed you meant that
the computer was slowing down overall -- not specifically a network
interface.  Anyway, if you wanted to test for a memory leak, you would
simply monitor memory usage for running processes.  You could use top for
this.
