In the meantime I discovered that the problem goes away when using 'ar rvT'. That means: One given *.a-File that couldn't be ranlibed when produced with "ar rv" could be ranlibed when using "ar rvT". But I tried to create a simple test file with a function name longer than 15 chars and it worked, so it is not a simple length limitation. I'll seperate a test example that shows the problem from the Mach4 sources (or elsewhere) as soon as possible.
