The specific combination, which=20= =20 has=20always worked for me in the past, is control-T to open a new tab,=20= =20 control-K=20to get to the web search field. This failure appears even=20=20 with=20firefox run as indicated above. If, after opening the tab, I take care to click on the window,=20=20 control-K=20works again.
