The problem is a missing semicolon before > the date. D'oh. I always saw the mail after it had gone through the gateway and (foolishly) thought that MTA's aren't meant to re-write headers like that. Thanks. Pass the hat. (P.S. can someone with root on freefall fix this? I would, but I'm currently experiencing 50% packet loss to the end of my ISP's T1, let alone to freefall :-( ARGH. The patch at the end of this mail should do the trick I think (to be applied to the freefall.mc file and then the .cf file rebuilt ...) ) For those who want an explanation of what my patch does, either read the Sendmail book from O'Reilly, or ask me nicely.
