Um - you mean MacOS (which had this feature before MS did) was caused
by M$?

And yeah, I think it's a feature. Having used such for 10 years (on
AmigaDOS, which inherited it from TRIPOS), I find myself doing 
"ls | grep -i stuff" an awfull lot....

AmigaDOS even managed to handle internationalizing it sanely.
