OTOH, if there is some other > functionality I'm missing, I'd love to know about it. sudo is your friend. alias shutdown sudo shutdown with the appropriate entry in /usr/local/etc/sudoers username hostname = NOPASSWD: /sbin/shutdown The Gnome people seem to think GDM is the only way and pulled the handy shutdown and reboot options from logout when not running GDM and I suspect that this was to "push' the use of GDM. -- R.
