Using either telnet or rlogin from FreeBSD 2.2-current to BSD/OS 2.0 results in extremely bursty I/O, with lags in typing echo of up to 10 seconds over a completely unused line: FreeBSD -> [ISP] -> BSD/OS It's like some kind of protocol compatibility problem, and it never gets better. If an intermediate system is used, e.g.: FreeBSD -> [ISP] -> SCO Unix -> BSD/OS performance is excellent. Take the intermediate site out and it's back to sluggish response. The FreeBSD machine is running on a 28.8 V.FC modem with PPP. The ISP system is series of terminal servers connecting to the main network machines with T1s.
