I wonder if there could be some conflict between the Netgear interface and my Asante switch. Perhaps so. I get this (though the link usually does finally stay up) with both of the SMC cards that I have tried with my Linksys switch. On the other hand, my Linksys card always comes up on the first try with the Linksys switch.
