KDM was only listening on udp6, by default now. Found a few references to it, but by changing net.inet6.ip6.v6only=3D1 to net.inet6.ip6.v6only=3D0 it now listens on udp46 which solved the problem! I'll probably be disabling ip6 support anyway for this box, but Garrett thanks very much for your help. It lead me to the problem.
