FYI, it is not at all about the "NEdit's author's position". OM 2.2.2
is *buggy*. See for example

   This Motif version is needed by Oracle (e.g.
   Forms&Reports), the newer 2.2.x Motif does not work
   and is not certified with Oracle.

An I would suggest at least to update to OM 2.2.3, which is a bugfix
release fixing among many other things also the bug in the tooltip
code that crashed not only nedit (where using tooltips wasn't necessary=20
at all to get crashed, btw).
