Dale,

Have you checked the IRQ settings.  I have had a similar problem a
number of times and every time it was a PCI network card using the
same interrupt as my Stallion (IRQ 10).  Move the network card to a
different IRQ and everything seems to go fine.

Also, I always use /dev/cue? to talk to the modems ie. cu -l
/dev/cue0 -s 57600 - dont know if this is right, it is just what I've
always done.
