You don't need the ssys.* files to run named.  You do need these files
to customize your kernel, which is probably something you want to do.

As for setting up DNS and BIND service with named, I recommend
getting the book _DNS and BIND_ by Albitz and Liu, published by
O'Reilly & Associates (ISBN 1-56592-010-4).  It has complete
instructions.
