Apparently, the problem was just a failure of serial port A (broken connector or serial port dead?). I plugged in a Sun keyboard and a Sun screen and I resetted the NVRAM by holding Stop and N together during the boot. Then, I was able to tell the machine to use serial port B :

setenv input-device ttyb
setenv output-device ttyb
reset

and it works fine.

Many thanks for those who suggested possible solutions.

Now, I can work on my -CURRENT problem :-)
