All domains that end in .org, .net, .edu, .gov, and .com MUST go through the InterNIC. Domains ending in .us, .au, .ca, .uk, etc. are handled by different organizations. It appears that the organization which you pointed out provides a way to register .uk domains which do not have to be processed by the InterNIC (damn good thing too, their registration process is S-L-O-W!!!) - Justin J.
