So it > probably has its reasons to exist. Yes. It is doing loopback on the Ethernet level, and also provides multiple interfaces connected to the same virtual Ethernet bus. I see 2 reasons for it to exist: 1. For development and debugging, to simulate Ethernet on a networkless machine. 2. For the network code of the emulators.
