I've also tried installing all of KDE from packages (albeit 3.0, not 3.0.2 -- is there a place for 3.0.2 packages anywhere on the net?). Same storry. I am doing a portupgrade -NRrf x11/kde3, this should take a while. If that fails, I'll try to build kdebase with debugging enabled...
